New heavy-duty truck engine from Cummins
Cummins Engine Co. Inc. announced a completely new 600 horsepower diesel engine with the first electronic dual overhead cam in automotive history. The company said it believes the Signature 600 engine can help capture a larger share of the heavy-duty truck market worldwide and also improve profitability. The new engine will be produced beginning next March at Cummins’ Columbus, IN, plant now undergoing a $225 million expansion. The engine will be demonstrated in trucks made by major manufacturers during a coast-to-coast tour set to commence on August 4th.
Cummins, headquartered in Columbus, IN, is the world’s largest producer of diesel engines above 200 horsepower. These engines provide power for customers in its key markets: automotive, power generation, industrial and filtration. Cummins reported record sales of $5.3 billion in 1996.
