VarityPerkins Signs Indian Engine Agreement

VarityPerkins, part of LucasVarity PLC, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the engineering firm Simpson & Company, Madras, India, to form a joint manufacturing and marketing operation in India. The joint venture is expected to have a capacity of up to 60,000 diesel engines before the year 2000. It is targeted at India’s industrial, agricultural, power generation and vehicle markets.
Simpson & Company, part of the Amalgamations Group, has manufactured and distributed engines based on Perkins’ technology since 1953.
