Caterpillar and Isuzu Announce Fuel Injector Program
9 October 1997
Isuzu Motors Ltd. and Caterpillar Inc. have jointly developed a direct injection fuel injector for diesel engines. The injector is expected to significantly reduce CO and NOx emissions. Isuzu said it plans to use the injector in a 3000cc diesel engine to be used in Isuzu sports-utility and light commercial vehicles to be introduced in the next fiscal year. The injector adopts Caterpillar technology to increase fuel pressure by about 50% to 1,400 atmospheres and improving fuel efficiency by more than 30%. Isuzu said it may also use the injector in a new 2000cc diesel engine.
