3rd Nanoparticle Workshop—Call for papers

21 May 1999

3rd ETH Workshop on Nano-Particle Measurement will be held on Tuesday, 10 August 1999 at the ETH in Zurich. Depending on the number of speakers, the conference may be extended to Wednesday.

The workshop organizers invite workshop contributions with a short title and some keywords. Please respond before 15 June 1999, via fax or email to the TTM address given below. The workshop agenda will be then finalized by the end of June. At that time details about the workshop organization will be also available.

Nano-particle measurement is a big challenge for the scientists and engineers to whom this invitation is addressed. The workshop will offer a platform to discuss the recent developments in the pertinent technology. The invitation extends to all persons active in the process of characterizing airborne pollutants and fine dusts.

Many new insights have been obtained into sample extraction, analysis under laboratory and field conditions, calibration, and investigations of the multifarious sources of nano-particles. There is also new knowledge about the generation of particles during combustion and their transformation in the atmosphere, as well as about the chemical and morphological spectrum of alveolar intruding particles, their behavior in the respiratory tract, and the consequent demands on the measurement technology. Hot gas filtration of ultrafine particles also has made progress dependent in many aspects on definitions and metrology of nanoparticles.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss recent developments with fellow technical experts and to mutually reassess the technology and set priorities for further investigations on important unresolved aspects.

The ETH nano-particle workshop remains a closed colloquium for the exchange of information and opinion among the specialists. The press and the public are excluded. Publication of the proceedings is planned, however the speakers can individually decide whether their contributions will be included or not.

Thanks to the support of this workshop by ETH and BUWAL there is no conference fee.

As an additional attraction, a trip is planned to view a solar eclipse. This rare event will be visible north of Zurich on 11 August 1999.
