US EPA to provide funding for diesel retrofit programs
9 April 2003
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a funding assistance program (RFA# OAR-CCD-03-04) to help fleets retrofit diesel powered vehicles with emission controls. The EPA has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) for funding proposals to retrofit existing diesel engines with technologies that have been verified to reduce diesel exhaust emissions under EPA’s Voluntary Diesel Retrofit Program.
Proposals will only be accepted from state and local governmental agencies, who are interested in undertaking a partnership project with the purpose of reducing heavy duty diesel emissions. EPA anticipates award of 5 to 10 cooperative agreements. Initial awards, in fiscal year 2003, will range from $50,000-$100,000 per award. The total funding for this project is estimated at $500,000. The application due date is 27 May 2003.
EPA anticipates a second similar Request to be announced to fund only school bus retrofit projects, in conjunction with the recently announced school bus campaign. The school bus RFA is expected by mid-June.
