Volvo, Mack to use EGR technology for US 2007 engines

Mack Trucks and its parent company Volvo Trucks North America have selected the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filters (DPF) as the technology for meeting the US 2007 emission standards for heavy-duty diesel engines.

Volvo Trucks plans to begin highway tests of the new technology in about 30 trucks in the Spring 2005. EGR technology has been utilized in both Mack and Volvo engines since October 2002.

EGR+DPF technology has been already announced for 2007 by Cummins and Navistar, while Caterpillar said it will use ACERT engines with DPF. DDC has been considering urea-SCR, as an alternative to EGR, for 2007 Series 50 urban bus engines.
