CRT filter verified for use with B20 biodiesel

26 August 2005

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has extended the verification of the Johnson Matthey CRT particulate filter system to include operation on B20 biodiesel blend. It is the first particulate filter verification in California that allows the use with biodiesel fuel.

The B20 blend is defined as a mixture of 20% neat biodiesel (by volume) that complies with ASTM D6751 and 80% diesel with a sulfur content of no more than 15 ppm.

The CRT diesel particulate filter is a passively regenerating filter system which achieves an 85% reduction in PM emissions, thus qualifying as a Level 3 device. The CRT filter was previously verified for a number of engines for use with petroleum diesel.
