Fleetguard opens SCR systems plant in South Africa
4 November 2005
Fleetguard Emission Solutions announced it has opened an exhaust aftertreatment manufacturing facility in Pretoria, South Africa, to produce selective catalyst reduction (SCR) systems for NOx emission reduction in Euro IV and Euro V heavy-duty truck and specialty vehicle applications. Initially, all SCR systems made at the plant will be exported to the European market.
Fleetguard Emission Solutions has invested more than $3 million in the 50,000-square-foot facility located in Pretoria’s Rossyln Automotive Supplier Park, which is near key suppliers and transportation facilities. The plant is expected to employ about 50 workers by mid-2006.
A small number of the SCR systems will be produced this year with full production levels projected to begin in the second quarter of 2006. Production at the plant eventually is expected to exceed 70,000 units a year.
The Pretoria plant will serve as a complement to a lower-volume Fleetguard’s SCR facility in Hinckley, United Kingdom, where about 20,000 units are produced each year.
Fleetguard Emission Solutions is a part of the Components Segment of Cummins Inc.
