Eberspächer buys Purem
9 November 2007
Eberspächer, an automotive component supplier based in Esslingen, Germany, has purchased Purem Abgassysteme GmbH & Co. KG.—the Unna, Germany-based manufacturer of emission control systems. The transaction took effect retroactively, as of August 1, 2007. The financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed. Purem will become a part of the new Eberspächer Commercial Vehicles Business Unit.
Purem was an integrator of emission systems for commercial vehicles for Daimler. One of the main products was SCR systems for European Mercedes trucks. Purem, fully owned by Daimler, employed 135 people and generated a turnover of 80 million Euro in 2006.
Eberspächer’s objective is to significantly raise its market share in the area of exhaust aftertreatment for commercial vehicles. “In the future, we want to be number one or two in the world market for commercial vehicle aftertreatment systems from Euro IV onwards”, said Thomas Wünsche, Eberspächer’s General Manager of Exhaust Technology.
The Eberspächer group of companies specializes in exhaust and vehicle heating systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. It has 5,800 employees in 16 countries and in 2006 produced a turnover of more than 2,020 million Euro.
