BASF supplying particulate filters for Hong Kong buses
3 April 2008
BASF Catalysts will supply more than 2,500 diesel particulate filters (DPF) for Hong Kong transit buses. Beginning this year, BASF’s DPX™ Max filters will be installed on vehicles from Hong Kong’s four major transit bus operators—The Kowloon Motor Bus, Citybus, New World First Bus Services and New Lantao Bus.
The DPX Max is a passively regenerated, two-stage (catalyst + catalyzed DPF) diesel particulate filter. BASF Catalyst’s distributor in Hong Kong, Consolidated Parts and Accessories Sales Centre Ltd. (a member of Dah Chong Hong Holdings), will supply the filters for the buses and provide maintenance services.
This contract marks the first large-scale commercial use of diesel particulate filters in the city as part of a diesel retrofit program. Previous diesel retrofit programs in Hong Kong focused on diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC), with BASF Catalysts (formerly Engelhard) being one of the major suppliers. Since 2003, more than 35,000 buses and trucks in Hong Kong were retrofitted with BASF DOCs.
