ECS Purifilter Plus particulate filter receives California verification
17 January 2009
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has verified the ECS Purifilter Plus™ as a Level 3+ device for use with selected 1993-2006 non-EGR on-road diesel engines, originally certified to a PM emission level equal to or less than 0.1 g/hp-hr.
The Purifilter Plus is the first verified “hybrid” diesel particulate filter (DPF), which combines a passive, catalyzed particulate filter (ECS Purifilter™) with electric heating elements (from the active ECS Combifilter™). When exhaust gas temperatures are insufficient to support passive regeneration, the hybrid filter can be maintained by periodic active regeneration by plugging in the system to a 240 V, single-phase or 480 V three-phase regeneration control panel which is shared among many vehicles.
Purifilter Plus™ is applicable to vehicles with variable or cold duty cycle operation as well as high demand vehicles where users want to ensure vehicle up-time and minimize the labor related to removing a passive DPF which exhibits high exhaust restriction. Users can choose to employ a pro-active scheduled plug-in interval determined for their specific application or can choose to reactively plug-in the vehicle upon illumination of an indicator light.
