Cummins to supply 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel for Nissan Titan pickup truck
21 August 2013
Cummins announced that it will supply its new 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine for Nissan’s next generation Titan pickup truck.
Nissan has not yet announced the launch date, but industry insiders expect that the new truck could be launched next year as a 2015 model. Engineering prototype trucks powered by the Cummins engine are currently undergoing on-highway testing, said Cummins.
The new engine is a turbocharged 5.0 liter V8 rated at over 300 hp, with torque around 550 lb-ft. The engine meets the applicable emission regulations using a diesel particulate filter and a selective catalytic reduction system from Cummins Emission Solutions.
The new Titan pickup will be competing with the Chrysler 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, powered by a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine from VM Motori. Cummins continues to supply diesel engines for Chrysler heavy-duty pickup trucks.
The new engine will be built at the Cummins Columbus Engine Plant. The plant, which dates back to the 1920s, was originally built around a two-story Civil War era house purchased by Cummins co-founders Clessie Cummins and W.G. Irwin.
A version of the Cummins V8 Turbo Diesel also will be available to other commercial vehicle customers.
