Ford launches Ranger pick-up with V6 diesel engine in Europe
24 November 2021
Ford announced the launch of a next-generation Ford Ranger pick-up truck in the European market. For the first time, the new Ranger will be available with Ford’s powerful V6 turbodiesel, the company said.
Order books for the next-generation Ranger will open in Europe in late 2022 for customer delivery in early 2023. The current Ranger is Europe’s pick-up segment leader and recently set a new September year-to-date sales record of 45,539 units, with market share of 39.9%.
To provide an option with more power and torque for towing heavy loads and extreme off‑roading, Ford added its 3.0 L V6 turbodiesel engine and developed it for the Ranger. Officially homologated fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions figures have not yet been published.
The six-cylinder engine is one of three turbodiesel options available at launch—the next-generation Ranger will also come with a choice of Single-Turbo and Bi-Turbo 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder diesels. There is also a choice of six speed manual or auto and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The V6 diesel for the Ranger appears to be based on the Ford 3.0 L Power Stroke V6. The engine has been rumored to be dropped from the Ford F-150 lineup in the near future. In the F-150, the Power Stroke V6 engine developed 250 hp and 440 lb-ft (597 Nm) of torque.
The next-generation Ranger project was led by Ford’s Product Development Center in Australia.
