19 August 2024
MAN Engines announced a new MAN D3872 V12 workboat engine, which will be showcased at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg, Germany on September 3-6.
The new engine has a displacement of 30 liters—a significant increase in compared to the existing MAN D2862 V12 series with 24 liters of displacement. The new engine features an injection pressure of 2,200 bar and a new MD1+ engine control unit.
The most powerful variant D3872 LE433 achieves a high power of 1,618 kW (2,200 hp) at a dry weight of just 2,720 kg. The D3872 LE432 variant, designed for medium-duty applications, delivers 1,213 kW (1,650 hp) at 2,100 rpm. The power variants for light-duty applications are rated at 1,618 and 1,471 kW (2,200 and 2,000 hp).
Despite the increase in power, the MAN D3872 offers similar installation dimensions to the smaller MAN D2862 V12 engine with a 24 L displacement. While the length has been increased by 100 mm to 2,335 mm, the connection dimensions have remained identical.
In combination with the modular exhaust gas aftertreatment system utilizing urea-SCR technology, the MAN D3872 meets current strict emission standards such as US EPA Tier 4 or IMO Tier III.
