AVL to supply emission sampling system for US EPA

US EPA’s National Vehicle and Fuel Emission Laboratory of Ann Arbor, MI has awarded AVL’s North American Test Systems and Instrumentation Group a contract to supply and install an emission sampling system from heavy-duty engines. The maximum potential value of the contract is $807,951.

The system is required to support EPA’s emission regulatory technology development. This includes the accurate measurement of emissions from heavy-duty diesel engines certified to the 2007 heavy duty on-highway emissions standards. In addition, AVL’s exhaust emission sampling system will provide the capability needed by EPA to test low-emission heavy-duty engines equipped with advanced exhaust emission control systems.

The new sampling system will provide the functions of the constant volume sampler (as those defined in 40CFR 86.1310-2007), as well as a low loss dilution tunnel, and an enhanced emission sample handling system. Installation will be at EPA’s heavy-duty test cell #2 in Ann Arbor, MI.
