John Deere introduces PowerTech PSL 4.5L Tier 4 engine without DPF
26 August 2016
John Deere Power Systems announced an addition to its lineup of Tier 4 industrial engines, the PowerTech™ PSL 4.5L engine. With this new engine, John Deere extended the availability of their PowerTech 4.5L Tier 4 DOC/SCR engines without a diesel particulate filter (DPF) into higher power ratings.
The PowerTech PSL 4.5L with variable speed ratings is equipped with an Integrated Emissions Control system consisting of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The PSL 4.5L also features a dual stage turbocharger, with a fixed geometry low pressure stage followed by a variable geometry high pressure unit.
“We continue to enhance our Final Tier 4 engine lineup. With the introduction of the PowerTech PSL 4.5L engine, we’re offering a common technology solution across our entire 4.5L power range from 63 to 129 kW (85 to 173 hp),” said Darrin Treptow, manager, worldwide marketing for John Deere Power Systems. “The PowerTech PSL 4.5L delivers more power density and improved low-speed torque, while leveraging combustion optimization that eliminates the need for a DPF.”
John Deere designed the Integrated Emissions Control system—without a DPF—for the PowerTech PSL and PWL 4.5L engine platforms. The non-DPF PWL 4.5L engine was unveiled at the 2013 BAUMA show. The original John Deere Tier 4 engines, the PowerTech PSS 4.5L, have been equipped with particulate filters.
The new PowerTech PSL engine without a DPF is available with power ratings from 93 to 129 kW (125 to 173 hp). The existing PowerTech PWL 4.5L engine with DOC/SCR aftertreatment delivers 63 to 104 kW (85 to 140 hp).
